Program Highlights
In 1985, one child was placed in a home recruited from a local church by Child SHARE. Today, more than 1,000 children have lived in foster homes recruited from a network of 350 churches and parishes in Southern California.
- Two out of three foster children* placed in a Child SHARE home stay with the SAME FAMILY until they are reunited or adopted!
- Since 2001, one out of three foster children* placed in a Child SHARE home is adopted—usually by their foster or respite foster parents! This is more than DOUBLE the national adoption rate.
- Most Child SHARE foster families stay active for five years—more than TWICE the the County of Los Angeles average. Many "drop out" to adopt their foster child!
- Child SHARE has the nation's only recruitment campaign in deaf congregations to find American Sign language-fluent foster parents for abused and abandoned deaf children!
- Child SHARE launched an expanded bilingual Hispanic outreach campaign in 2005.
*Permancy rates do not include emergency shelter placements which are short term by design, but do include all regular foster placements including children considered 'unadoptible.'
